The flotsam and jetsam of life wash up on the shores of Orszag's gentle surrealism, where people and their instruments become infected by spurious mind-crofts and cataclysmic serenity - Simon Gregg

IMPROBABLE JOURNEY | GIPPSLAND ART GALLERY | SALE
17 MAY - 6 JULY 2014

OPENING NIGHT FRIDAY 30 MAY 6PM

Becc Orszag is a seer guiding viewers through uncharted lands in IMPROBABLE JOURNEY. Her work calls upon the spirits of distant lands and times, whose worlds overlap and co-exist within our own. Orszag proposes unlikely interactions and encounters through sequences of small-scale pencil drawings. Alternating between impossible landscapes and domestic exchanges, the works are inhabited by a range of characters whose curious activities deliver surprising outcomes.

THE PROMISED LAND | DIANNE TANZER GALLERY | MELBOURNE
20 OCT - 17 NOVEMBER 2012

Becc Orszag's debut solo show with diannetanzer gallery + projects opens today at 3pm.

An exhibition of new drawings by Melbourne artist Becc Orszag. Orszag's work questions the voyeur’s moral ambivalence and role as a witness to their own experience. It’s the potential for upheaval or worse, nothingness that we constantly seem to be on the edge of. Unseen and unspoken, unaware of just how close to that line we are. Through highly detailed small scale drawings Orszag explores unresolved narratives forcing individual observation and interpretation. Figures are removed from their original contexts into dissected, re-imagined, illusionary realms. Gestures are exaggerated, mimicry is amplified and gazes are obscured. The protagonists become anonymous and redundant stripped of power and will. The viewer unable to meet their eye becomes a witness acutely aware of their voyeuristic behaviour.

EXHIBITION: 'Autocue' at Daine Singer Gallery

'The quiet walkover' (detail) - graphite and carbon pencil on paper, 28x38cm, 2011

AUTOCUE | DAINE SINGER GALLERY |MELBOURNE
8 - 31 OCTOBER 2011

OPENING NIGHT 13 OCTOBER 6PM

Becc Orszag’s drawings of eerie mountain scapes and figures engaged in ritualistic actions imply an unexplained history; off-handed notations and seemingly careless markings surround these meticulously rendered scenes. Working from found imagery, Orszag removes figures from their original contexts into dissected, re-imagined, illusionary realms. Gestures are exaggerated, mimicry is amplified and gazes are obscured. The artist explores the de-individualisation of society, voyeurism and the mindless acceptance of what we witness. – Daine Singer
