EXHIBITION: 'Intermission' at Stockroom

BECC ORSZÁG
Intermission, graphite pencil and 24kt gold leaf on paper. 28x35 cm 2021

INTERMISSION | SOLO | STOCKROOM GALLERY | KYNETON
4 DECEMBER - 9 JANUARY 2022

Intermission is an exhibition of drawings, sound and sculpture. This intermission occurs within a liminal space, situated on the sensory threshold. It embraces the dichotomic experience of living within a transitional state - a pause of unknown duration. It leans into the heaviness of stuckness, forced submission, perpetual waiting, letting you surrender and drift away. While simultaneously offering you the drug of hope, to take pause, get lost in reflection, seek nourishment and create your own sanctuary.  Intermission is a bridge between realities.

The soundtrack for this exhibition is composed of field recordings gleaned from the rainforests of Tasmania and surrounds of Daylesford and spans the duration of a single day.

Official Opening Saturday 4 December 4.30pm

UTOPIA AND THE UNATTAINABLE: an interview with Becc Ország TOGETHER IN ART | ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES | by Anne Ryan

Melbourne artist Becc Ország is interested in the ways people create monuments and spaces for the sacred, and our capacity to envision utopias and dystopias. Curator Anne Ryan spoke with Ország recently about the visions of perfection that inform her meticulous practice.

Ország’s drawings will be included in the forthcoming exhibition Real Worlds: Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial 2020 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, opening on 24 October 2020.

EXHIBITION: 'Fantasy of virtue / All things and nothing' at Stockroom

Becc Orszag_fantasy of virtue promo

FANTASY OF VIRTUE / ALL THINGS AND NOTHING | SOLO | STOCKROOM GALLERY | KYNETON
11 AUGUST - 2 SEPTEMBER 2018

Fantasy of virtue / All things and nothing features intricate works on paper by Victorian-based artist BECC ORSZÁG. In this ongoing body of work, ORSZÁG explores 'sehnsucht', a German noun which describes an individual’s unfulfilled longing for an idealistic, unattainable alternate experience, combined with the phenomenon of paramnesia (déjà vu); the distortion of memory in which fantasy is confused with reality. ORSZÁG examines these ideas in relation to concepts of sacred space and religious experience, questioning notions of existence, ritual, pilgrimage and idolatry.
